When you hold one of these new Windows PCs, you will think, you’re holding a “dummy laptop” you’ll find at Wal-Mart, but these are real computers. Even more, the popular MacBook Air at 2.96 pounds and the Yoga 3 Pro at 2.6 pounds will feel bulkier and heavier. Getting the LaVie Z series comes from a partnership between Lenovo and NEC since 2011, where the two companies agreed to build NEC-branded Windows PCs only for the Japanese market. The two new devices will be the first sold outside of Japan. There are two versions, the LaVie Z HZ550 and the LaVie Z HZ750 Yoga-like convertible, and they both bring the weight down thanks to the a new magnesium-lithium chassis, which is 50 percent lighter than aluminum and strong as magnesium alloy. As for tech specs, both feature a screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, they will include Intel’s 5th generation Core series processors, commonly known as “Broadwell”. The LaVie Z HZ550 comes with a Core i5 processor, while the HZ7750 is configurable with up to a Core i7 processor. Both include a 128GB SSD as standard internal storage. The laptop also gets 4GB of RAM, two USB 3.0, HDMI out, SD Card, audio jack, 4-cell 29.6 Wh battery with an estimated 7-8 hours of video playback. The hybrid gets the same ports, but it doubles the RAM to 8GB, 6-cell 44.4 Wh battery with an estimated 7-8 hours of video playback.
The LaVie Z HZ550 laptop will have a starting price of $1,299 and the HZ750, Yoga-style convertible, will start at $1,499. Lenovo plans to release both devices in the US in May. Japan is also getting these models sometime in the spring, however the pricing will be different. Source Cnet All content on this site is provided with no warranties, express or implied.
