According to Windows Central, Microsoft is positioning the new variant to compete with the base model of its cousin Surface Pro, which also packs a Core m3 processor, but it requires you to spend another $129.99 to get the Surface Type Cover. In addition, the new entry-level Surface Laptop will target students and those people who require light computing power, such as those who simply are using a web browser, social media apps, and checking emails. Of course, the $999 configuration with a Core i5 processor and 4GB of memory will continue to be available, but it’ll no longer be the base model for this line.
