This also means that if you already pre-order, or you pre-order today, you’ll be receiving the new 40 percent slimmer console on August 2nd. The company also warns that initially the Xbox One S will be available in limited quantity, and seeing that the demand is high, you must hurry to try and pre-order the console now.
What’s new in the Xbox One S
Xbox One S is just a smaller version of the current console. While it comes with a few new features, the hardware performance pretty much remains the same. The console is 40 percent smaller than original Xbox One, and ditches the power brick for a new built-in power supply. The console includes some design tweaks like one of the USB ports and the pairing button now are located at the front of the device. And there is a new IR blaster for increased accessibility. Xbox One S is the first game console from Microsoft to actually let you play Blu-ray movies and watch video streams on 4K resolutions with HDR. There is also support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) for gaming, which makes select games, such as Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, and other look much better on your compatible TV. Inside of the box, you will also receive a new Xbox Wireless Controller, which has been slightly redesigned. The controller features textured grip, better signal, and there is support for Bluetooth, so you can quickly connect to your Windows 10 Anniversary Update device. If you need additional controllers, you can purchase as a standalone item for $59.99 starting August 2nd. Also, all your previous accessories from Xbox One will work on the new Xbox One S. Xbox One S pricing begins at $299 for the 500GB model, and it goes all the way up to $399 for the 2TB model. Of course, there is also the 1TB model for $349. If you’re a Gears of War fan, you might be also interested in the Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Limited Edition Bundle, which Microsoft announced, and it’s ready for pre-order now.
